Baltimore, M.D. — March 9, 2026 – A new health feature on Blavity, along with candid conversations on the Business of Pleasure and Better Black Health podcasts, are bringing renewed attention to an often-overlooked issue in men’s health: the connection between sexual function, overall wellness, and the importance of preventive care.

Blavity Health Feature

Blavity Health, the health and wellness vertical of Blavity, a leading Black-owned digital media company, is focused on delivering culturally relevant, expert-reviewed health information. Serving Black millennials and Gen Z, Blavity Health provides accessible, medically vetted content on health education, prevention, and wellness. With a media network that reaches over 100 million readers monthly across its digital platforms and social channels, Blavity Health is a trusted and influential source for health information within Black communities.

The recent Blavity Health article explores conditions like bladder spasms and other urinary health concerns, shedding light on symptoms that are often misunderstood or ignored. Bladder spasms, in particular, are an often-overlooked condition that causes sudden, uncontrollable bladder contractions and an urgent need to urinate. The article explains how these episodes can disrupt daily routines, from work and travel to sleep, and why many people hesitate to seek medical help due to embarrassment.

“Keep in mind that these issues are common and treatable. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. You deserve to feel comfortable and confident in your daily life,” said Dr. Burnett.

The Blavity Health feature emphasizes that bladder spasms are manageable once the underlying cause is identified, underscoring the importance of early evaluation and open conversations about urinary and men’s health.

The Business of Pleasure Podcast

The Business of Pleasure podcast, hosted by clinical sexologist Kasha Vanessa Johnson (also known as Your Sexologist Bestie), blends candid discussions on intimacy, relationships, wellness, self-care, and personal growth. The podcast explores topics at the intersection of sexuality, emotional connection, empowerment, and confidence, often in humorous and insightful ways. With over 600,000 total views on YouTube, Kasha’s channel continues to engage a rapidly growing audience.

Dr. Burnett, during his podcast appearance, emphasized that symptoms many men dismiss such as erectile dysfunction, changes in morning erections, or urinary issues, may actually signal cardiovascular or metabolic problems. These symptoms, he explained, can provide critical opportunities for early intervention.

“Sexual function reflects overall vascular health,” said Dr. Burnett. “When men begin experiencing changes, it can be a signal that something broader is happening in the body. The most important message is to seek care early rather than waiting until symptoms become severe.”

The conversation also addressed cultural stigmas around discussing sexual health, as well as misinformation about performance, alcohol use, and unrealistic expectations shaped by media narratives.

Better Black Health Podcast

Hosted by Dr. Greg Hall, the Better Black Health podcast reaches listeners committed to improving their health and the health of their families. The podcast shares valuable content across platforms like YouTube and social media, expanding its impact. Dr. Hall’s YouTube channel has accumulated almost 200,000 total views and continues to grow.

Dr. Burnett also shared his expertise on the Better Black Health podcast, emphasizing that Black men’s sexual health should not be minimized. He pointed out,

“Black men in our culture are often emasculated in so many ways,” highlighting the importance of proactive healthcare for this community.

Dr. Burnett discussed the significance of the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test, explaining that,

“The beauty of the PSA is that it’s a simple blood test that provides important information about the health of the prostate. While it is not infallible for detecting prostate cancer, it can also indicate prostate enlargement or infections. Any abnormal result warrants a consultation with a urologist.”

This candid conversation underscores the importance of early detection, regular screenings, and breaking cultural stigmas around men’s sexual and urinary health. Dr. Burnett aims to help Black men navigate their health concerns with confidence and understanding through open discussions and regular check-ups.

Dr. Burnett’s Advocacy for Men’s Health

Dr. Burnett’s Blavity feature and interviews on The Business of Pleasure and Better Black Health podcasts all emphasize the importance of adopting healthy habits earlier in life. This includes maintaining a balanced diet, limiting alcohol, avoiding smoking, prioritizing sleep, and managing stress. Dr. Burnett’s ongoing advocacy for men’s health serves as a powerful reminder that taking charge of one’s well-being early on can make all the difference in the long run.
