Baltimore, M.D. — November 10, 2025 — World-renowned urologist, Dr. Arthur L. Burnett, professor of urology and oncology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute, appears on a new Gyno Girl podcast episode titled “The Viagra Pioneer, on How Men’s Sexual Health Problems Affect Their Partners”, to discuss his groundbreaking work in men’s sexual health.

Gyno Girl Presents: Sex, Drugs & Hormones is a weekly podcast dedicated to exploring hormonal changes, sexual health, and pelvic wellness. Through expert interviews and patient stories, the show addresses critical issues affecting women’s health and encourages listeners to take an active role in their wellness journey. Its audience includes healthcare professionals, patients, and individuals seeking practical advice on sexual wellness, hormonal health, and holistic well-being.

Dr. Burnett’s episode highlights his pioneering research on the nitric oxide pathway, which enabled the development of Viagra (sildenafil citrate), and his contributions to treatments for erectile dysfunction (ED) and related conditions.

During the discussion, Dr. Sameena Rahman, the host of Gyno Girl podcast and specialist in sexual medicine & menopause, emphasized the importance of quality of life for patients, asking about the role of sexual health in survivorship.

“Survivorship is key. As healthcare professionals, our role goes beyond simply treating a patient. We must consider the broader impact of our work, not only delivering effective treatments but also providing post-treatment support that addresses the whole person and promotes overall wellness.” Dr. Burnett said.

Listeners will gain insights into:

  • Dr. Burnett’s pioneering research on nitric oxide and the development of Viagra.
  • The broader health implications of erectile dysfunction and its impact on partners.
  • Treatments for Peyronie’s disease and approaches to nerve-sparing surgery for prostate cancer survivors.
  • The role of testosterone replacement therapy in men’s health.
  • Healthcare disparities in men’s sexual health and the importance of advocating for comprehensive care.
  • Practical, evidence-based lessons from nearly 40 years of clinical and research experience in urology.

This episode provides an in-depth look at both the science behind these treatments and their broader implications for men’s health, quality of life, and clinical practice.
