Walsh Professor of Urology and Oncology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has been appointed as a medical reviewer for Blavity Health, the health and wellness vertical of Blavity. In this role, Dr. Burnett will provide medical oversight to ensure Blavity Health’s content is accurate, evidence-based, and culturally informed, while contributing expert insights on a monthly basis.
Blavity Health is the health and wellness vertical of Blavity, a leading Black-owned digital media company focused on culturally relevant, expert-reviewed health information. The platform primarily serves Black millennials and Gen Z, delivering accessible, medically vetted content on health education, prevention, and wellness.
Blavity’s media network reaches over 100 million readers monthly across its digital platforms and social channels, making Blavity Health a trusted and influential source for health information within Black communities.
Dr. Burnett’s first feature as medical reviewer includes an article addressing sexual health awareness and risk prevention. He also served as a quoted expert, clarifying misconceptions around sexual health and offering practical guidance to readers.
In the article, Dr. Burnett explained:
“The chances of getting an STD from a handjob are very low, but they’re not zero,” says Dr. Arthur Burnett. “The main risk comes if you touch open sores, blisters or bodily fluids and then touch sensitive areas like your mouth, eyes or genitals. The easiest way to stay safe is simple. Always wash your hands thoroughly right after any sexual contact.”
Dr. Burnett’s dual role as both medical reviewer and expert source highlights his commitment to combating misinformation and providing culturally informed, trustworthy health education particularly within Black communities, where access to accurate sexual health information remains critical.
His contribution to Blavity Health aligns with his broader work as a clinician, researcher, global speaker, and advocate focused on men’s health, health equity, and patient education worldwide.
